John Denver was a superstar performer who influenced millions of people with his pop-folk songs and many of them inspired by Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in love with Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's most popular songs about his new state brought many people to Colorado. I can't think of another performer that embodies Colorado such as John Denver said G. Brown curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. Denver was the very one of the first Hall of Fame inductee in the year 2011. He has become the personification of Colorado to the people all over. When I travel, I always encounter someone on the other part of the globe, or someone who is from New Zealand and you say "I'm of Colorado and the very first thing that comes out of their mouth is Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads written by co-writer Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff used Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the tune, however Denver realized that it could turn into a hit once he heard an earlier version. The song was first recorded two weeks following the Washington D.C. performance.
